This is an attempt to adjudge prevalence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) among primary school children. The sample comprised of 26 (20 boys and 6 girls) ADHD children from eight Government Kannada medium schools situated in Dharwad city of Karnataka state. The children age ranged between 10 and 12 years. Diagnostic and statistical manual -IV was used to identify ADHD children by the class teacher. The result revealed that prevalence of ADHD among the children ranged between around 3 to 13 per cent with an average prevalence was 6 per cent. The prevalence of ADHD among boys was higher than girls and ratio was 3:1.Keywords

This study was conducted to compare between the students of I and II PUC on stressful life events and behavioural problems and to know the association between stressful life events and behavioural problems among students of I and II PUC. The sample consisted of 416 pre-university students of both PUC I (N=223) and PUC II (N=193) age ranged from 16 years to 19 years drawn using random sampling method from five colleges of Bidar city. This was an ex-post facto research design. Stressful life events schedule (Biradar, 2007) and Revised Behavioural Problems Scale (Quay and Peterson, 1986) was administered on the students of pre-university courses. The data was subjected to't' test and Karl Pearson's co-efficient correlation analysis. The results revealed that both PUC I and II year students had developed more or less similar level of stress in family relations, peer relations, academic, physical health, psychological aspects and overall stress. Correspondingly they had developed similar level of conduct disorder, socialized aggression, attention problem, anxiety withdrawal and psychotic behaviour problems. The results also revealed that there was significant positive relationship between stressful life events and behaviour problems among sophomores (I and II PUC students).Keywords

The study was conducted to identify prevalence of behaviour problem among the students of Government Primary School in urban area. The population of this study consisted of all the students of urban Government Primary Schools from 1st to 4th standard in Dharwad Taluka. There were 232 Government Primary Schools, among them 166 schools were in rural area. Out of which 5 schools from urban area were selected randomly, 2 male and 2 female students from 1st to 4th standard from each school were selected randomly, the sample consisted of 38 female and 40 male students aged 5-10 years. So, the sample of this study was 78 students. Class teacher of each standard assessed 2 male and 2 female students of the class by answering to Behaviour Rating Questionnaire. The data were subjected to percentage and Chi-square analysis. The prevalence of anxious/depressed problem, hostile/aggressive, withdrawal/solitary, conduct, hyperkinetic, learning and emotional/impulsive problem was 64, 43, 35, 23, 10, 6 and 6 per cent as assessed by the mothers.Keywords

The study was conducted to know the association and comparison between SSLC and PUC students on emotional health dimensions. The sample comprised of 300 emerging adults in the age range of 15 to 18 years. An ex-post-facto exploratory research design was used to analyse the results. The Place and duration of study was Department of Human Development and Family Studies, college of Rural Home Science, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka, India, between 2009 to 2011. The Emotional Health Scale (EHS) by Angadi (2011) (1) and general information form was used for collecting data. The data was subjected to chi-square analysis. The results revealed that there was a highly significant association between SSLC and PUC students on Emotional Health and its dimensions. The results also revealed that SSLC, PUC I and PUC II students were low on self-awareness, emotional management and self-confidence dimensions whereas, PUC II students were low on self-confidence, self-esteem dimensions and emotional health. The students of SSLC, PUC-I, PUC-II, had developed low level of self-awareness, emotional management, self-confidence, self-esteem and emotional health. The students who are undergoing board exams of SSLC and PUC should be provided with proper guidance w.r.t emotional health which caters to the positive development of the individuals. Also, parents and teachers should monitor students for any deviations in the behaviour of the students and counsel them. Policies should be formulated to create awareness regarding emotional health, its importance and role in building the personality of the students.Keywords

The study aims to investigate the relationship between emotional health dimensions and demographic characteristics of parents like parent's occupation, type of family, schooling, and type of stay (with parents/hostel). The sample comprised of 951 emerging adults in the age range of 16 to 22 years. An ex-post-facto exploratory research design was used in the study. The place of the study was Department of Human Development and Family Studies, college of Rural Home Science, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka, India, between 2009 to 2011. Instruments used were: The Emotional Health Scale (EHS) by Angadi (2011) (1) and general information form was used for collecting data. The data was subjected to correlation analysis. The results revealed that there was a significant negative relationship between mother's occupation and overall emotional health of male emerging adults. Also there was a significant negative relationship between schooling, mother's occupation and stay of female emerging adults and overall emotional health. Mother's occupation has a definite and significant influence on emerging adults emotional health. There is a felt need of balancing work-life quality time for positive outcome of emerging adult's emotional health.Keywords

The present study was conducted during 2007-08 in Bellary and Bijapur districts of Karnataka state with 120 beneficiaries of KAWAD project as the sample to analyze the impact of income generating activities on rural livelihoods of Karnataka Watershed Development (KAWAD) project beneficiaries. The study revealed that, the change in overall capital acquisition index was 51.27 per cent before to 78.89 per cent after undertaking income generating activities and t-value calculated was 6.13, which was significant at 1 per cent level. There was non-significant relationship found between independent variables and overall asset improvements among beneficiaries.Keywords

A study on social intelligence among emerging adults was carried out in Dharwad, Hubli and Ranibennur cities, Karnataka state. The sample for the study comprised of 659 graduating emerging adults among them 198 respondents from medical stream, 164 respondents from engineering stream and 297 respondents from agriculture streams were selected. General information schedule was used to collect background information and Social intelligence scale by Dr. Mathur (2007) was used to assess social intelligence among graduating emerging adults. Results revealed that majority of the agriculture graduating emerging adults were observed in high level social intelligence. There was significant association between subject stream and social intelligence. Female graduating emerging adults poses high social intelligent than male graduating emerging adults.

The study aims to assess the level of stress among dual-earner couples. The sample was selected trom both public and private sectors using the snow-ball technique trom Dharwad city. The sample comprised of 155 dual-earner couples. An ex-post- facto exploratory research design. Department of Human Development and Family Studies, College of Rural Home Science, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka, India, between 2007 to 2008. Personal information schedule and Stress questionnaire developed by Bhagwatvar (2000) was used for data collection. The data was subjected to trequency, percentage and correlation analysis. The results revealed that dualearner couples were having high stress per se, husbands were experiencing high stress and wives were experiencing low and medium stress. Correlation analysis between the type of occupation, number of working hours and dualearner couples revealed a significant negative relationship with stress levels.Keywords
